World Ranking of Wines & Spirits 

RANKING BACKGROUND

The idea and management was implemented in 1996 between Bruce Galphin from USA, Raúl C. Castellani from Argentina, and others, all from different management areas in wine, who evaluated the different ways to provide positive action to the wine culture, Marketing and dissemination.

At the end of 1996 the World Classification of Wines and Spirits was created to encourage and reward those who made efforts to compete and improve the quality of wines.

The World Ranking of Wines and Spirits (WRW & S®) groups the results of the contests through international spreadsheet system and analyzes the Wine and Wine Societies in each country, matching and correcting mistakes in wine and company names for their search Fast.

The International Evaluation Commission is headed by an International Manager who is eventually changed.

The annual closing of WRW & S® is on January 31 of each year and after verifying data with public and private publications and communications of the contests, it is published on the WAWWJ website (www.waww.com) in a form Definitive to be used by wine companies immediately appears on the Internet.

The World Classification of Wines and Spirits / World Ranking of Wines and Spirits from January 1, 2004 groups only International Wine Contests. In 2018 there were 490 World Competitions (International and National) of which only 80 were used for WRW & S®, which are the international ones with more than 5 participating countries. - In 2018, more than 700,930 wines were evaluated in the contest.

Why is this classification important?

This annual list aims to reward the efforts of the World Wine Companies to improve their quality, compete and demonstrate to consumers the benefits of their products. It essentially serves wine importers around the world who can choose the wines more awarded from each country for their purchases.

This healthy competition, which is the wine competitions, has allowed in the last 15 years to improve in a great proportion the quality of the wines of the world market and to allow the sales growth of the participating wines and winners of prizes, in more than one 300%.
